I
noticed a few things about the way Dotson writes. He makes his writing very
personable. Dotson also uses a ton of detail to describe everything. He writes
a lot about all the different camera shots you could do. Also he says how
journalism is changing and reporters need to become better at capturing
stories. I thought it was a pretty easy read and he made it easy to fallow
along. It wasn’t just same text book that is impossible to read without falling
asleep. Dotson did a very good and detailed job of giving us his tips on how to
be a successful journalist.
Something
I learned from Dotson is that you should start writing in the middle instead at
the beginning. He said it is a lot easier. I think this is very interesting
because I would never think to do that on my own. I also learned that you
shouldn’t go into an interview with a plan. You should go into it and have a
conversation with the person you are trying to learn things about, and you will
find out a lot more. I think this could be challenging for some people but if
you are a journalist you have to be good at holding conversations with people.
There are two columns for the scripts. On the left
side of a script there is a title, location, duration time of the script,
correspondent, and producer. It shows what the reader sees. All of the writing
is capitalized and sticks out. On the right side, there are detail writing
segments. Some of the writing is just a sentence and some of the writing is big
paragraphs. This side shows what the reader hears.
